New York Times columnist Bob Herbert tells liberals that we need to hold our heads high while the right-wing republicans (RWRs) attempt to pummel us into the ground and blame us for all of society's ills.
Contrary to what RWRs say, we are responsible for many of American society's advances: the women's right to vote, civil rights, social security, unemployment insurance, Medicare and Medicaid, Head Start programs, food stamps, safer food, safer toys, safer workplaces, and so on.
Instead of letting Mitt Romney claim that WE are responsible for the sorry state of America today (what on earth is he smoking???), and allowing McPalin to ridicule someone who works at the roots of a community trying to make the world a better place, we should own up our commitment to social justice, environmental protection, compassion, and kindness, and stop distancing ourselves from what the liberal voices in our history have accomplished against the odds.
