4th of July at the Beach

We spent a fun-but-too-short weekend at the beach to celebrate the 4th of July. The weather forecast said it would be unseasonably warm there, but alas it was wrong!

We took in the usual hokey Rockaway 4th of July parade. I refrained from taking the usual parade photos, since I'm aware of how many parade photos I've posted on my blog in the past year! This time I took a few photos of the spectators--Mike and boys getting ready to catch candy, and watching the parade with old family friends:

Wandering along the beach, exploring holes, "forts," and mountains of sand...

Beach bum brothers (the other brother is less inclined toward the beach and would rather curl up inside with a book!)

The weather was unfortunate enough that we weren't actually able to see the official Rockaway fireworks--it was too overcast and foggy! Oh well. We saw PLENTY of illegal ones. Even though Oregon levies a $500 fine (supposedly), the beach was full of illegal, flying-through-the-air fireworks.

While walking along the beach Saturday evening, we came across some friends from Portland...true to our pattern of running into people when we are traveling.

Nicholas especially loves going to the beach and spending time in Grandma and Grandpa's beach house! We are SO lucky to be able to spend time there.

Thanks, Grandma and Grandpa!!

  1. Looks like a fun 4th! Ours was low-keyed; Beau fell asleep early so we watched the fireworks from our upstairs master window. I would have preferred being on the shore.
