Another reminder not to take life for granted

After our brief recent contact with ComedySportz (Chris' workshop experience and we had Kieran's birthday party there in April), we are feeling sad about the tragedy of two ComedySportz staff members' death this week.

Mike and Katie Myers were celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary at our beloved Sylvia Beach Hotel. They were exploring out on the Yaquina Bay jetty and were swept to their death.

I had received an e-mail from Katie regarding the middle school workshop (she was in charge of administering the youth programs), but I didn't know either of them personally. This isn't the first time, though, that I've been affected by the deaths of people who I do not know well (or at all).

This week, a 23-month toddler was killed when an elderly driver mistakenly hit the accelerator rather than the brake. Seamus DuBarry (in a stroller), his father, and another man were struck, and the small boy died as a result. They were simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. I can't imagine the agony the parents must be feeling right now.

These incidents serve as important reminders of the tenuous nature of life. And it's never a good idea to carry grudges. Hug your loved ones and tell them how much you cherish them.
